Things I Have Learned This Year

As the end of the year is fast approaching, I thought it may be wise to look back and take stock of what I have learned this year - which includes, amongst other things:

  1. I really love knitting.

  2. I can make a great risotto - except when I am trying to impress friends who are round for dinner, when it magically morphs into bland stodge.

  3. Sometimes life is weirder than a soap opera.

  4. I enjoy planning seasonal rituals.

  5. True friends rally round in times of crisis - and sometimes you don't realise what a true friend someone is until then.

  6. I may be the only woman in the world who can't stand Sex and the City.

  7. Waterproof mascara is worth its weight in gold.

  8. I can wire a plug.

  9. How to play Chinese Chequers.

  10. Goslings grow really fast!

  11. Bruce Springsteen is just as wonderful live as I always imagined he was.
  12. The weather is completely unpredictable.
  13. Chocolate Tiffin could well be the most delicious foodstuff on the planet.
  14. Things are never so good they can't turn bad.
  15. Things are never so bad they can't get worse.
  16. Things are never so bad they can't get better.

What have you learned this year?

i hate sex and the city too. :) i've learnt that i don't like drinking alchohol afterall. I would rather take the dog a three hour walk than go to a night club. And that making jam is wonderfully addictive.

Well there you go...there are 3 of us that don't like it. We should start a club.

I've learned that you should never say things like, 'Oh well, at least it can't get any worse.' At which point fate considers itself well and truly tempted to prove that it can and a whole lot more worse than you thought it couldn't get.

Also there are at least three women who don't like SATC. Personally, I never watched it. But I love Desperate Housewives.

Trust me I LOATHE Sex in the City, and yes good friends are worth their weight in gold.

I hate Sex and the City too! Had no idea there was anyone else with the same distaste for it.

Wonderful lessons you've learned this year. Bravo, and happy solstice. May 2009 turn out to be 100% better than 2008. May it be so!

I forgot to mention, if I don't get on before have a fantastic Yule (Dr Dragon is planning on drinking some strong ale for it!)

Your last three are the ones I most remind myself of. Especially the last one. It's a great mantra for those like myself who have panic attacks sometimes.

I did watch Sex and the City for a bit but my TV couldnt take it when I threw things at it while watching.

Life can indeed be stranger than any Soap Opera. It has been one strange year.

Happy Solstice/Yule!

I very rarely watch telly, so haven't even seen SITC!

Have a great Yule, Moonroot. I love your blog and was so sad to hear of your troubles this year.

Mixed views on SATC, but I too love knitting. And as for not having the nerve to pick up circular knitting, really honestly and truly, do give it a go - I learned to knit because I wanted to make socks, and then spent about a year knitting half-hearted flat things before I dared to try knitting in the round. I've just finished making my first fully-fledged round thing, and it was not only surprisingly easy, but deeply, deeply tickling to do!

Sending you love, light and laughter for 2009, and possibly some virtual double-pointed needles. :)
